When you are coming to volunteer at Colobus Conservation, you will have booked your flight to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi, Kenya. From there, you have three choices for the transfer to Diani.
The first choice is to fly into Moi International Airport in Mombasa, Kenya. If you take this option, Colobus Conservation will organise for a taxi to meet you at the airport to drive you to Diani. The trip should take about an hour, and involves a ferry crossing. The ferry is a drive-on type so you don't need to get out of the taxi for this. If the line up for the ferry is long, this will of course increase your travel time to us. We will pay the taxi driver. Tipping of the taxi driver is not expected.
The second choice is to fly from Nairobi, Kenya straight to Ukunda airstrip which is only ten minutes from our offices. We will pick you up from there in our Colobus Conservation vehicle. Airlines for the connecting flight that fly directly to Ukunda from Nairobi are Safarilink and Air Kenya.
The third option is to take the overnight train from Nairobi to Mombasa. This really is an experience. Check your travel guide book for more information.
From the train station in Mombasa, take a taxi to Diani and follow the directions to our offices from our map [Location Map].
When traveling to Kenya, it is advisable to get a tourist visa (three months $50). Although you will be a volunteer of the Colobus Conservation, you will in effect be on holiday.
It is recommended that you apply for and obtain your Visa before you arrive in Nairobi. Ask your travel agent for details.
